Just One Moment Lord

Compiled by Nemsy Gubatan

Preamble to Prayer

A.   St. Teresa of Avila:  "The important thing is not to think much, but to love much, and so to do whatever best awakens us to love."

B.   Jesus said to Sr. Faustina:  "With childlike simplicity talk to me about everything, for my ears and heart are inclined towards you, and your words are dear to me. This will give me great  joy. The simpler you speech is, the more you attract me to yourself."

C.  Prayer moves the hand that moves the world.

D.  St. Teresa of Avila:  "When praying, we do not always have to reason with our minds. We may also remain in God's presence to discuss things with him and find comfort in him, without tiring ourselves by talking too much. We simply point our needs to him and his obligation to have pity on us."

Some Small Talk with God

"O Sacred Heart to which I belong, on which I depend and by which I live, inflame me, take possession of me and transform me entirely into Thee! Grant that all my endeavors may be to arrive at Thee, that all my movements and actions be to unite myself to Thee! I protest that I would prefer to suffer a thousand deaths rather than to be separated from Thee or commit any act of infidelity towards Thee.  -  St. Margaret Mary

"Jesus, who in your bitter passion became the Man of Sorrows, I venerate your Holy Face on which shone the beauty and gentleness of Divinity. There, I recognize your infinite love, and I long to love you and make you loved."  -  St. Therese of Lisieux

"Eternal Father I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of your sacred wounds."   -  Sr. Mary Chambon

"Dearest God, teach me to be generous, teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek rest, to labor and not ask for reward, except to know that I am doing your will."  -  St. Ignatius Loyola

"Let the just rejoice, for their Justifier is born. Let the sick and infirm rejoice, for their Savior is born.  Let the captives rejoice, for their Redeemer is born. Let the slaves rejoice for their Master is born. Let free men rejoice for their Liberator is born. Let all Christians rejoice, for Jesus Christ is born."  -  St. Augustine

"My beloved God, at every beat of my heart, I want to offer myself to you again and again; until the shadows fall away and I can tell you my love face to face forever."   -  The Little Flower, St. Therese

"Lord, you called, you cried, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you chased away my blindness. You became fragrant and I inhaled and sighed for you. I tasted, and now hunger and thirst for you. You touched me, and I burn for your embrace."  -  St. Augustine of Hippo

"I take you then, O most Sacred Heart, as the sole object of my love, as the protector of my life, as the pledge of my salvation, as the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, as the repairer of all the defects of my life, and as my secure refuge at the hour of my death."  -  St. Margaret Mary

"Lord, take from my heart all painful anxiety. Suffer nothing to sadden me but sin, nothing to delight me but the hope of coming to the possession of you, my God and my all."   -   Venerable Catherine McAuley of Ireland

"Eternal God, you are a mystery as deep as the sea. The more I search, the more I find. And the more I find, the more I  search for you."  -  St. Catherine of Sienna

"Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will; all that I have and call my own. You have given it all to me. To you Lord , I return  it. Everything is yours, do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me."   -  St. Ignatius Loyola

"Beloved Jesus Christ, the more I love you, the more you dwell in my heart, the greater is my longing for you. If I look upon you forever, it is never enough. For love of you, I wander through the world  singing and rejoicing."   -  St. Catherine of Siena

"Lord, you alone are my true friend, my treasure which can never decay. All earthly joys do you transcend, do visit me today."   - St. Louis de Montfort

"Lord Jesus, above and beyond the limits of giving, on the rugged cross you loved me to no end. And you trembled that my haughty heart might spurn your abundant grace. Oh, but the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Penitents, lifted my hands to touch your wounds, and there, I sighed: "Please Lord, hide me within your wounds."   -  Bro. Nemsy

"Oh beautiful Flower of Carmel, most fruitful vine, splendor of heaven, holy and singular, who brought forth the Son of God, still ever remaining a Pure Virgin, assist me in this necessity. O Star of the Sea, help and protect me. Show me that Thou art my Mother. Amen.   -  St. Simon Stock

"Oh Dear Jesus help us to spread your fragrance everywhere we go. Flood our souls with your Spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly, that our lives may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through us, and let them look up and see no longer us but only you Jesus. Stay with us, then we shall begin to shine as you shine so as to be light to others. Let us preach you without preaching, not by words but by our example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what we do, the evident fullness of the love our hearts bear to you."   -   Mother Teresa

"Oh heart full of goodness, listen to me and grant my petition. Oh Sacred Heart, to which I belong, on which I depend and by which I live, inflame me, take possession of me and transform me entirely into thee. Grant that all my endeavors may be to arrive at thee, that all my movements and actions be to unite myself to thee. I protest that I would prefer to suffer a thousand deaths rather than be separated from thee or commit any act of infidelity towards thee."  -  St. Margaret Mary

"Good morning dear Lord. Thank you for the precious gift you have given me this morning - my life- to live fully and joyfully one more day! Please give me the grace to be kind and patient today that I may see beyond worldly appearances, so that I may encounter your holy presence in each person I meet. Close my ears dear Father to all gossip. Seal my lips to all judgment and criticisms that my words will only bless all about me and warm the coldest heart. Let my actions be so just, my feelings be so tender, my conduct be so humble and true to your will that throughout this day I will be a reflection of your heavenly mercy and love. Amen." -  Mother Antonia

"Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you. I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures; I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into you hands I commend my soul. I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father."   -  Charles de Foucauld

"My good, my all, sole object of my love. O come, I desire you, I sigh after you. I wait for you. Every little delay seems a thousand years. Come, Lord Jesus, and delay not."  -  St. Benedict Labre

"Unite me to Thyself, O adorable Victim. Life-giving heavenly Bread, feed me, sanctify me, reign in me, transform me to Thyself, live in me; let me live in Thee.  -  St. Elizabeth Seton

Lord, to praise you is proper. To adore you is germane, and to worship you is fitting. But my deepest longing is to love you and receive you in my heart. And when I am near you, all I want is to draw closer and closer to you. Oh, unquenchable thirst, unfathomable yearning, endless desire ... for inseparability and unstoppable love.  -  Bro. Nemsy

So late did I love you, beauty so ancient and so new, so late did I love you! You were with me, and I was not with you ... you were fragrant and I breathed in deeply and now I am breathless with longing for you. I tasted you and now I hunger and thirst for you ... you touched me and now I burn with desire for the peace that is yours. -  St. Augustine

"You know Lord, in the end, I love you to no end. I don't know why. Perhaps because you are my One and only, the One who really loves me. And there is no One like you. It seem that I miss you all the time, although I have so much to do. But when time is no more, then Lord, just hide me within your wounds, and raise me up with your loving arms as you will. "   -  Bro. Nemsy
